Spring Skin Care

At the end of winter, we can usually use a pick-me-up. With these 7 tips, you will be ready for spring in no time!

Lack of sunlight combined with excessive artificial heat and regular hot showers often means that the skin does not emerge from its hibernation optimally, despite our best efforts.

Not to worry! With these seven tips, you can get your skin glowing again, your body back in tip-top shape and your mind awake in no time:

1. Lighter moisturizer

In the winter we like to use rich creams for dry or dehydrated skin. But in the spring it is wise to opt for lighter moisturizers.

2. Scrub

Changing temperatures and dry air characteristic of winter (cold outside, hot inside) do your skin no favours. When spring temperatures rise again and humidity increases, it is a good time to give your skin a little extra pampering. Regular exfoliation (both face and body) rids your skin of dead skin cells and stimulates circulation, resulting in a smoother, healthier and more radiant complexion.

3. Spring sun

The sun makes your skin produce more vitamin D, but it is important to let your skin get used to the sun gently and avoid sunburn. The sun also creates free radicals. So use caring products with a UV filter and lots of anti-oxidants that fight skin ageing.

Beautiful skin and a healthy diet go hand in hand. Did you know that you can also protect your skin from harmful effects of the sun by eating the right foods? For example, blue grapes, red and purple forest fruits contain many antioxidants that protect your skin from UV rays. But almonds and tomatoes also have a protective function. It takes too far to go into further details here, but it really is worth looking into!

4. Sleep

A good night's sleep is also known as 'beauty sleep'. And with good reason! It is precisely during sleep that your body recovers. Let your skin also benefit from this restorative effect by cleansing it every evening and caring for it with a serum and a night cream. The eye area also deserves attention. It is precisely there that signs of fatigue are first visible.

5. Water

The 'drying' effect of winter and cold is not limited to the skin, but has its impact on the whole body. Therefore, drink enough water and light herbal teas (e.g. green tea with ginger or lemon) to purify your body, but pay attention to the quality of the water and vary the types of loose tea.

7. Diet

Create more energy by eating more consciously: choose fresh produce, wash it carefully (pesticides) with a vegetable/fruit shampoo or make your own solution with water, (apple or natural) vinegar and baking soda. Scrap refined sugar. Try to make as many products as possible yourself (avoid 'instant food'). Eat lots of different fruits and vegetables (preferably in season) so that your vitamin and mineral deficiencies are eliminated. The more colour, the better!

7. Exercise

An optimal method to boost your metabolism, get rid of excess winter pounds and get your body back in shape is regular exercise, preferably outdoors. Physical exercise makes you tired and satisfied and gives you new energy. And if you do it outdoors, you will discover that nature is ready for spring, just like you!
